Sérénade is a string-ensemble program by the Orchestre national Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes that bridges the orchestra’s historical legacy with its contemporary international outlook. Britten’s Simple Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings anchor the evening and recall the ensemble’s inaugural program from June 1982, celebrating more than four decades of artistic growth and touring. The program also features a string version of Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1, performed by guest soloist Sung-Won Yang. A contemporary counterbalance comes with Broken Satellite by South Korean composer Song-Aa Park, chosen as a cultural and thematic prelude to the orchestra’s third tour of South Korea planned for May 2026. In Clermont-Ferrand, audience engagement was further enriched by a free 18:30 pre-concert talk led by musicologist Benjamin Lassauzet (Université Clermont Auvergne), offering context and listening cues for Tchaikovsky’s Serenade.
