This is the fourth concert of the 2025–2026 season of Le Sinfonietta de Lausanne, titled "DOUBLE" because the orchestra is "doubled" by bassoonist and conductor Sophie Dervaux, who performs two distinct functions in a single evening: first as a soloist alongside principal Sinfonietta bassoon Miguel Ángel Pérez Diego in the rare double-bassoon concerto by Johann Baptist Vanhal — a contemporary of Haydn who has fallen into obscurity — and then as conductor of Beethoven's Symphony No. 4, an often-overlooked masterpiece that sits between two of the most famous symphonies ever written. The programme deliberately pairs a rarely-heard eighteenth-century concerto with a neglected Beethoven symphony, showcasing virtuosity, finesse, and the dialogue between two voices (instrumental and orchestral).
