Rituale

About

Rituale is a site-specific promenade performance marking the opening of the new UMAK building (University Mozarteum at the Kurgarten). Inspired by Byung-Chul Han’s essay The Disappearance of Rituals, the project explores community through playful yet meaningful music-making. The award-winning architecture by Berger+Parkkinen becomes the stage as the audience moves through the spaces—from the atrium to the café and garden, via the elevators to the choir hall. Alongside established contemporary works, the program features several premieres by students created specifically for this occasion, including new pieces by Samuele G. Ferrari (in dialogue with dance), Emma Ebmeyer, Hugo Daouk, Parham Behzad (a smartphone-choir performance in the foyer), and Tina Geroldinger. The evening culminates in a conceptual improvisation in the atrium based on the building’s floor plans.
