The program takes listeners on a musical journey between the North’s frozen soul and Mediterranean clarity, revealing three faces of Romanticism. Led by assistant conductor Sebastián Almánzar, the Orchestre national Montpellier Occitanie sets side by side three rarely coupled symphonic pages, bound by boldness and beauty. It opens with Sibelius’s Impromptu for string orchestra, whose strings weave a melancholic yet luminous fabric—an instant portrait of Finnish nature; continues with Saint‑Saëns’s Suite in D major Op. 49, seldom heard, animated by dancing rhythms and a distinctly French transparency; and closes with Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 1 in C minor Op. 11, a teenage work brimming with passion and lyricism. From Nordic poetry through French finesse to German Romantic fire, the evening compresses a wide expressive arc into an intermission‑free hour.
