Libretto by Charles-Antoine Le Clerc de Bruère Created on November 19, 1739 at the Royal Academy of Music in Paris, Version revised in 1744 (Gilles Rico edition). Dardanus , third of the six tragedies written by Rameau, is without doubt the work in which the breadth of the multiform genius of the composer flourishes most fully. Performed in concert in the 1744 version, the last 3 acts of which were completely reworked from the original 1739 version, Dardanus marks an important stage in Rameau's musical development. The importance devolved to the orchestra in the accompaniment of the song here reaches full maturity. The libretto presents all the “themes” of French opera: thwarted love, the bravery of the secretly loved hero, the visionary magician or the infernal spirits. This opera will be performed by the Pygmalion Choir and Orchestra conducted by Raphaël Pichon.
