Rompeltier is an acrobatic music-theatre production that places polyphony and circus in the same performance space. In an intimate opening, multi-voiced sounds resonate, clash and converge as Renaissance music meets circus. Voices are said to speak without words and bodies to sing without a voice. At the heart of the production is MEGAtron, a kinetic, interactive sound installation of organ pipes and bellows that evokes a damaged cathedral or a machine from a lost past. Audiences position a lantern to trigger music, while air is needed for the installation to breathe and sound. Directed by Wouter Van Looy, the piece interweaves images and sound as musicians from Delle Donne Consort dialogue with Toon Quanten’s installation.
