Lamentations

At the heart of the Old Testament, the Book of Lamentations (or Book of Jeremiah) has inspired composers for centuries. This concert bridges Renaissance liturgical polyphony and contemporary creation, programmed around Holy Week and engaging with the tradition of the Leçons de Ténèbres. At its center is a new work by Catalan composer Joan Magrané Figuera, whose music fuses a deep study of early music with a modern, forward-looking language. His premiere converses directly with Renaissance predecessors and is interwoven with poems by the Catalan writer Jacint Verdaguer that respond to the Lamentations of Jeremiah.
