Symphony No. 40 is portrayed as an intense, unforgettable experience, from its dramatic opening to the sweeping finale, encompassing pain and breathtaking beauty and distinguished by its inner tension and dramatic power. Symphony No. 41, the “Jupiter,” is presented as the apex of classical genius: though written amid personal and financial strain, its music rises above hardship with confidence and strength.
