American Ballet Theatre's 2006 presentation of Apollo was a centerpiece of their All-Star Stravinsky program at the Metropolitan Opera House. This production features George Balanchine's neoclassical choreography set to Stravinsky's Apollon Musagète, with staging by Karin von Aroldingen and Richard Tanner in accordance with the Balanchine Style® and Technique®. The visual design included lighting by Brad Fields, recreating the original design by Ronald Bates, and the production was presented by arrangement with The George Balanchine Trust. The run was notable for multiple casting milestones, including David Hallberg’s New York debut as Apollo and Carlos Acosta’s first performance of the role with ABT. Across the run, rotating casts offered distinctive interpretations of Apollo’s path to maturity, from crystalline purity to noble command.
