This new production by the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège is directed by Rodula Gaitanou. The staging concept utilizes a revolving stage that reveals the backstage areas and the inner mechanical workings of the Opera house itself. Through this meta-theatrical set design, Gaitanou holds up a mirror to the Countess’s grief, framing the opera's central aesthetic debate within the physical reality of a working theater. The directorial vision emphasizes an intimate conversation between artists, positioning art as a “healing balm.” The production is supported by the Tax Shelter of the Belgian Federal Government and the Bel Arts Fund.
