These are the four well-known brave animals: donkey, dog, cat and rooster. They set out into the unknown and in the end never reach their longed-for destination of Bremen. Along the way they already find their favorite place. “We can find something better than death anywhere” is also a powerful motivation. A gripping, relatable story that easily translates to the human world. Many composers have devoted themselves to this famous tale, which has been translated into almost all languages and dialects. The Staatsorchester Braunschweig and the Brunswick illustrator and artist Meike Töpperwien take it up as well. In the version for symphony orchestra, onomatopoetic animal languages sound quite naturally alongside wonderfully familiar melodies. They bring to life this curious fairy-tale world in which the call “Come with us to Bremen” keeps returning — even though Braunschweig has already been reached.
