Aria is a ballet production formatted as a pas de deux, set to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. The production was choreographed by László Seregi, who also served as the costume designer, with lighting design by Stanisław Zięba. The piece premiered on April 11, 1987, at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw. It was originally presented as part of a mixed-bill performance evening that featured three other distinct choreographic works: Bits and pieces (music by David Byrne, Brian Eno, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy), After Eden (music by Lee Hoiby, choreography by John Butler), and Wariacje Don Juan. Archival photography by Jacek Giluń captures the performances of dancers Anna Białecka and Mariusz Małecki in this specific staging. The production enjoyed a brief initial run with multiple performances extending through June 1987.
