Cantos unfolds as a surreal tableau and a distorted mirror of human folly and carelessness. Drawing on Francisco de Goya’s Proverbios (Los Proverbios/Los Disparates) and the provocations of Marcel Duchamp, it shifts between humor, tension, and ghostly beauty. An enlarged marble floor renders performers miniature, creating a fragile small-world view where the familiar turns uncanny. In a world torn by wars and contradictions, the production composes a poetic, unsettling landscape that feels both timely and timeless. Live pianists perform Simeon ten Holt’s open-form Canto Ostinato on stage, directly shaping atmosphere and pacing. The work continues Kuźmiński’s collaboration with dramaturg Paul Bargetto, fusing visual metaphor and kinetic precision.
