Urinetown

This production marks the revival of San Diego City College's Visual and Performing Arts staging of Urinetown, which was originally halted several weeks into rehearsals in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Directed by Katie Rodda, it is the first musical presented at City College since 2019. The production features a live band under the musical direction of Richard Dueñez Morrison and choreography by Kristin Arcidiacono. The directorial vision emphasizes the play's underlying themes of capitalism, drought, and climate change. Aligning the production's message with real-world action, the creative team contributed a portion of the proceeds to the Climate Action Campaign. The technical execution includes a student-run sound booth operating over a dozen individual wireless microphones. To accommodate post-lockdown safety measures, performances were held at half capacity, offering 146 seats per show.
