Part of the Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci 2020–2021 edition themed “Flower Power,” this concert links three string quartets through the metaphor of flowers and their emotional symbolism, framed by Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal. The program traces a path from Haydn’s classical craft to Puccini’s romantic elegy and Berg’s modernist, autobiographical Lyric Suite. Quatuor Van Kuijk performs in the Historische Aula (Historical Hall) of the Helmholtz-Gymnasium in Potsdam, a Gründerzeit-era space that complements the festival’s tradition of presenting music in historically resonant venues.
