100 cymbals is an installation concert designed for 100 melodious percussion cymbals, offering a unique visual and auditory experience focused on deep listening. Led by Japanese musical and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda, the musicians of Les Percussions de Strasbourg immerse the audience in a vastness of vibrations. The performance functions more as an audio-visual installation with performance elements than a traditional concert. Ikeda, known for his ambient work and connections to the glitch and noise scenes, uses this project to explore the delicate, harmonic resonance of the copper-based instrument. Rather than producing a chaotic din, the hundred metal cymbals generate a light drone with changing harmonies that resemble the sweet sound of a violin, creating an almost polyphonic, choir-like melodiousness.
