A double bill pairs Puccini’s Suor Angelica with the absolute premiere of Francisco Lima da Silva’s Rigor Mortis (also referred to as “the house of Rings”). With a libretto by A. Baião‑Pinto after Domingos Monteiro’s short story Mortuary House, the new opera contemplates finitude and a supra‑earthly view of life after suicide. It frames the tale as a tragicomic post‑mortem thriller focused on female guilt, atonement, and sacrifice. The staging is by director David Pereira Bastos, with sets by Patrícia Costa and costumes by Neusa Trovoada. Miguel Sepúlveda conducts Ensemble MPMP. Presented at Operafest Lisboa 2023, the production is designed for portability and is marked by Ópera do Castelo as available for touring.
