Teresa Ludovico’s adaptation of Plautus’ Amphitryon relocates the ancient tragicomedy to a contemporary criminal underworld. Originally scheduled for 2020 and postponed due to the pandemic, the show was finally presented at Bergamo’s Teatro Sociale in March 2025 as part of the Altri Percorsi series. A company of six actors and one live musician continuously sketches the work’s dual realms: divine and human, above and below, light and shadow. The director pinpoints the core themes as the double, the construction of a fictitious identity, the theft of the self, and the loss of one’s being as guaranteed by a social role. Produced by Teatri di Bari – Teatro Kismet OperA, Ludovico also signs the dramaturgy and costumes (with Cristina Bari). The scenic space and lighting are by Vincent Longuemare, choreography by Elisabetta Di Terlizzi, with original music by Michele Jamil Marzella performed live by Francesco Ludovico.
