Many artists’ lives are shaped by existing between two worlds and two cultures—between an old and a new home, between a place of longing and a place of being. They live perpetually “in transit,” suspended between arrival and departure, an existential experience of uprooting and inner division that often echoes in their art. Our age of restless movement brings inner and outer upheavals along with ambivalent feelings of liberation and desire, longing and melancholy, concern and fear. In Transit, Wagner Moreira explores the many facets of transition and portrays both the joy and the pain of constant change, as well as the search for belonging—to people and to places.
