Vortex temporum

The meeting between Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Gérard Grisey’s Vortex temporum marks a pinnacle of contemporary dance. Premiered in October 2013 at the Ruhrtriennale, this production brings seven dancers and seven musicians together in a whirlwind of time and space. The choreography draws on the spectral structure of Grisey’s music, turning sound waves into circular and spiral movements. The concept rests on a complete fusion between gesture and note. Each dancer is closely paired with a specific musician, creating a visual polyphony that mirrors the score’s complexity. A minimal set allows the geometry of bodies and the physical presence of the Ictus Ensemble on stage to come to the fore.
