Superzero, Baby

About

Created under the principle of collaboration at eye level, SuperZero, Baby is a youth-devised opera performance about value and worth. Over six months, teenagers aged 14–20 researched, wrote, and improvised with words, voice, music, and dance alongside professional mentors. In parallel, a six-piece youth instrumental ensemble composed and rehearsed under the musical direction of Marc Bruckner. Directed by Austrian-Kurdish artist Scharmien Zandi, the project developed story, roles, and music within a safe space. The performance explores climate, resources, and sustainability, drawing on the participants’ lived experiences. A stage design built from repurposed stock—old furniture, sports gear, and suitcases—evokes scarcity and a world overrun with waste. Recommended for ages 12 and up, with post-show discussions.
