Hortus Musicus

This concert brought together the Estonian early music ensemble Hortus Musicus and the State Choir Latvija for a collaboration in the historic setting of St. Saviour's Anglican Church in Riga. Led by Andres Mustonen, founder and artistic leader of Hortus Musicus, the performance explored artistic and spiritual connections across centuries. The program juxtaposed early Baroque masters such as Monteverdi, Marini, and Castello with contemporary spiritual works by John Tavener and Estonian composer Tõnis Kaumann. Hortus Musicus’ period-appropriate sonorities intertwined with the rich choral palette of State Choir Latvija. The result was a reflective, stylistically varied evening shaped by Mustonen’s charismatic approach to early and modern sacred music.
