Cello Concerto in D minor

The young conductor Anton Legkii has put together a lively and energetic program for this concert. First comes Lalo's cello concerto with Bonian Tian as soloist. The first movement opens slowly and then moves into an allegro maestoso. The second movement also starts with a slow section and develops into a lively fast movement. The solo cello opens with a slow andante in the third movement; the orchestra joins in and then takes over. The music here becomes lively and marked, before the solo cello returns with a strong reference to the main theme. The concert ends with Rachmaninov's Third Symphony, which he composed in the years 1935 and 1936. The Third Symphony is considered a transitional work in Rachmaninov's output. In melodic expression and rhythm, it is his most expressive Russian symphony, especially in the dance rhythms of the finale.
