Lisbon Floor is a new Danish opera described as a “dystopian comedy with elements of horror.” Set in a haunted, dilapidated luxury high‑rise, seven characters become entangled in macabre and comedic complications. The score nods to a classic Mozartian style while playfully subverting operatic conventions. Commissioned and produced by Copenhagen Opera Festival, it crowns a three‑year collaboration between composer Matias Vestergård and librettist Lea Marie Løppenthin, staged by director Natascha Metherell. The Reumert jury praised its whimsical sonorities and quick‑witted dialogue, sung as a whirlwind of morbid humor and surreal sensitivity. The production won the 2023 Reumert Award for Opera of the Year, and mezzo‑soprano Sophie Haagen received the Talent of the Year award for her leading role.
