With its new project, the SND Opera Studio continues the tradition of presenting works by Slovak composers. It prepared the stage presentation of the opera Peter and Lucia by Mir Bázlik, which returns to the stage after 55 years. The work is an adaptation of Romain Rolland's well-known novel. The tender love story of two young people takes place against the background of the First World War. A chance meeting between a student and a painter gradually grows into a strong bond that isolates the couple from the outside world, the war and its consequences. However, the fate of the lovers is sealed by the bombing of Paris. The current war conflict in Ukraine, which directly affects our society, was one of the reasons why the Opera Studio reached for this title. Despite the tragic story, the last notes of Bázlik's musical drama also bring hope and are a celebration of love.
