This production presents a rare theatrical transformation of Feliks Nowowiejski’s Quo vadis, a work originally conceived as an oratorio. Under the direction of Ryszard Peryt, the staging converts the oratorio’s traditionally static, concert format into a dynamic dramatic performance (sceny dramatyczne). The visual world was shaped by set and costume designer Ewa Starowieyska, with choreography by Emil Wesołowski to animate the stage action. By bringing the oratorio into an operatic space, the creative team introduced physical movement, scenic tableaux, and theatrical pacing to a musically monumental piece. The result is a staged realization that balances the oratorio’s spiritual tone with stagecraft and gesture. The premiere took place on the Moniuszko Auditorium stage at Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw on 29 July 1994.
