The 1995 production of "Der liebe Augustin" was a commissioned world premiere (Uraufführung) specifically created for the Bregenzer Festspiele. Directed by Augustin Jagg, the open-air theatrical presentation was staged at Martinsplatz in Bregenz. The production featured set and costume design (Ausstattung) by Sabina Kellner. Rather than a traditional opera, this was a theatrical play written by Austrian author Michael Köhlmeier. To complement the staging, original incidental music was composed by Andreas Schreiber. The performance utilized the urban environment of Martinsplatz to bring the historical and mythical elements of the Augustin legend to life for the festival audience.
