A Song for the Moon

A Song for the Moon is an accessible yet multi-layered music-theatre work created as a "first opera" for young audiences and their families. It explores themes of loneliness, identity, disappointment, and friendship, ultimately celebrating the power of music and human connection. Conceived out of an ENOA workshop, composer Mathilde Wantenaar collaborated with director Béatrice Lachaussée and designer Nele Ellegiers. The animals from Toon Tellegen’s book are brought to life through imaginative sets and costumes by Ellegiers, with video by Coen Bouman and lighting by Cor van den Brink. The production was commissioned and co-produced by Dutch National Opera with De Munt, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, and Opera Zuid, and also includes dedicated school performances.
