Woman At Point Zero

Woman at Point Zero is a multimedia opera that reinvents the operatic form to serve as a powerful voice for a new wave of feminism across borders. Directed by Laila Soliman and conducted by Kanako Abe, it blends lyrical poetry, genre-defying music, and the recorded testimonies of contemporary women. Documentary audio fragments by filmmaker Aida Elkashef are woven into the live performance. Composer Bushra El-Turk’s score fuses Western and Eastern musical traditions, performed by Ensemble ZAR on instruments including taegum, accordion, fujara, duduk, kaval, sho, and kamancha. Scenographer/video designer Bissane Al Charif and video designer Julia König craft the visual world. The production challenges conventions while exploring exploitation, sacrifice, and the unending quest for freedom.
