Moritz Eggert’s opera Iwein Löwenritter reframes an Arthurian legend for today. The young knight Iwein wins the love of Countess Laudine through daring, then loses her after breaking an oath and spirals into crisis. Only with a lion at his side – his loyal companion – does he find himself again, earning forgiveness and a second chance. Commissioned by the Junge Opern Rhein-Ruhr (Theater Bonn, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Theater Dortmund), the Düsseldorf staging is by Aron Stiehl with Harry Ogg conducting; sets by Thomas Stingl and costumes by Sven Bindseil. Sung in German; surtitles were available in Düsseldorf.
