A one-act opera after Henrik Ibsen, composed by Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen with a libretto by Malin Kjelsrud. Commissioned by Staatstheater Meiningen, it extends the house’s collaboration with the composer. Kjelsrud reframes the material: the action unfolds on the day of Erik’s funeral and foregrounds narcissism, financial motives, and a fractured mother–child bond. The staging seeks to render the work’s psychological and memory-driven layers; the music is atmospheric, with dark orchestral shadings that mirror inner states. The creative team features Philippe Bach (conductor), Ansgar Haag (stage director), Dieter Richter (set), and Kerstin Jacobssen (costumes). The Meininger Hofkapelle performs with the house chorus, while Rolf Schreiber’s lighting uses color and atmosphere to interweave present action with recollection.
