Farinelli is a new creation by SELINUNTE SRL presented at the 2026 Avignon Off Festival. Conceived as a hybrid musical fiction between cinema and live stage, it is written, filmed, and staged by Sophie Maldague. The scenography uses a film projected live on a giant screen as a set, with on‑screen actors interacting with the performers on stage. Honduran countertenor (sopranist) Dennis Orellana, based in Madrid and winner of the 2025 International Farinelli Competition, takes the title role. Running 55 minutes without intermission, the format weaves filmed narrative with live vocal and stage performance; the music—not exclusively classical—is integrated into the plot. Video capture is by Marc Ridley, with post‑production by Dame Blanche, Studio 104, Caromotion, Franck Heymans, and Orellana. The visual identity nods to the historical figure Carlo Broschi (Farinelli), reframed in a contemporary story: it is a narrative piece, not a concert.
