This Kammeroper staging of Hamed and Sherifa, directed by Florian Drexler, is conceived as a family opera that playfully explores gender roles and identity. Central to the concept is a game of disguise: female characters appear as men to question and ultimately break social norms. The production stresses that what matters is the human being behind the surface, regardless of assigned gender categories. Musically, Zad Moultaka fuses traditional Lebanese colours with Western contemporary idioms. The intimate scoring—oboe, bassoon, double bass, and two percussionists—creates a distinctive sound world. Uniquely, all roles are portrayed by only three singers, demanding rapid transformations and high theatrical agility.
