The 1978 staging of Fedra at Teatr Wielki was conceived as a "choreographic tragedy" by Serge Lifar. It premiered on April 2, 1978, within an evening dedicated to Lifar’s ballets. Designed by Andrzej Kreutz Majewski, who created both scenography and costumes, the production forged a unified visual world for the Greek myth. Rooted in Lifar’s neoclassical approach, the choreography translated the psychological tensions of the story into precise balletic form. Set to Georges Auric’s dramatic score, the staging highlighted the emotional depth of its characters, especially the doomed passion of the title figure, Fedra.
