The revival project, curated by the Maria Malibran association in co-production with the Trianon, began with Alessandro Dalla Vecchia 's revision of the autograph manuscript preserved in the library of the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory. «Aside from its undeniable musical beauty, this opera by Cimarosa – explains Dalla Vecchia – has comic plots and an extremely careful treatment of the voices, so that none of the characters can be defined as a “supporting actor”, with an overall result of great theatrical effectiveness». The opera, in three acts, is set in Mezzotto, a district of Aversa, and takes its cue from the disguises of Donna Olimpia Onesti , who pretends to be Parisian to escape the violence of her husband, Don Martino Crespo , and win him back to love.
