The Old Globe’s revival of Clare Boothe Luce’s 1936 comedy The Women was staged as a lavish, large-scale production directed by Resident Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak. Conceived to showcase the full capabilities of the Globe’s scenic and costume shops, the production featured David P. Gordon’s elegant scenic design and Anna R. Oliver’s period-perfect costumes. Set in late‑1930s Manhattan and Reno, the staging evoked the opulence, wit, and social codes of wealthy society women. A 15‑actor ensemble portrayed 33 roles, highlighting the show’s tightly coordinated role‑doubling and rapid transformations. Lighting by Matthew Richards and sound by Paul Peterson supported the brisk comic rhythm and glamorous milieu, while movement and fight direction by Steve Rankin ensured precision in the production’s more physical moments. Overall, the Globe’s The Women offered a polished, visually sumptuous interpretation of a classic American comedy of manners.
