This Mariinsky staging is choreographed by Leonid Lavrovsky, with set and costume design by Pyotr Williams. Andrei Ponizovsky and Yegor Kartashov created the lighting adaptation for the Mariinsky II. Lavrovsky's approach drew on Veronese archives, medieval novels, and descriptions of early dances to ground the ballet in the historical and theatrical atmosphere of Renaissance Verona. Williams's visual concept combines heterogeneous Renaissance elements rather than reproducing one archaeological period, creating an assembled historical environment for the feud, the courtly ball, the balcony scene, and the tomb sequence. The production belongs to the Lavrovsky-Williams tradition and is associated with the historically important first cast, particularly Galina Ulanova as Juliet; archival casts are not assigned to the 7 October 2025 performance.
