Guillaume Séverac-Schmitz directs Romeo and Juliet as a boldly contemporary staging that merges spoken theatre, dance, video, and live music. Clément Camar-Mercier’s new French translation/adaptation provides direct, modern language performed by a predominantly female company. The Capulet party surges with electro energy, fights are rendered as cruel yet sensual choreography, and the balcony scene spotlights the intensity and awkwardness of first love. Pop and electro elements drive the stage action without forming a separate musical program. Over two hours, the design and music teams build a cohesive world that is vivid, youthful, and immediate, recommended from age 13.
