The dramma musicale »L'Orontea«, which premiered in 1656, tells the story of the eponymous Egyptian queen who falls in love with the stranger Alidoro, who was badly wounded during an attack. But while the other ladies of the court are also beginning to take an interest in the stranger, the highness's court adviser advises against a relationship: the difference in status between the queen and the mysterious stranger seems too great. There is a lot of confusion before the couple can finally get together. Antonio Cesti's L'Orontea was considered one of the most popular operas of the 17th century and enjoyed frequent performances. After that it soon became quiet about this stage work and it was only a few centuries later that it found its way back into the repertoire of music theaters, so that today there is an opportunity
