The 2001 Bologna revival of Les Oiseaux de passage was presented in a semi-staged format within the Teatro Comunale's concert season. Director Daniele Abbado devised an essential yet highly articulated scenic environment using the theatre's internal resources. The production blurred the boundary between a full staging and a concert by shaping a mutable performance space enhanced by Claudia Pernigotti's costumes and video projections directed by Cinzia Rizzo. This approach intentionally presented the opera's narrative—centered on the experiences and struggles of migrants—in a distanced, alienated manner to draw out its social and human tensions. Claire Gibault led the musical forces, and the performance took place on October 26, 2001, at the Basilica di San Martino in Bologna.
