Odyssee

One of the most significant works of poetry is the epic Odyssey by the Greek poet Homer. In 1995, at the invitation of the Athens Concert Hall Megaron, John Neumeier decided to engage with this comprehensive work about the hero Odysseus and his adventurous journey. His dance stage version was intended to come as close as possible to the roots of the epic while at the same time translating the literary model into a plane of movement. A prerequisite for this was commissioning a new work from the Greek composer George Couroupos and collaborating with the Greek stage and costume designer Yannis Kokkos.
