Mothers and Daughters

Mothers and Daughters is the Norwegian premiere of the latest work in the MONUMENT series by internationally renowned choreographer and performer Eszter Salamon. Set in the skylit spaces (Overlyssalene) of Kunstnernes Hus, the piece is conceived as a performative monument to “m/othering” that rehearses transgenerational relationships outside of expected professional and public norms. This Oslo-specific iteration features two Norway-based mother–daughter pairs: dancer and choreographer Sulekha Ali Omar with awarded rights-activist Safia Abdi Haase, and dancer and choreographer Christine Nypan with dance practitioner and educator Drude Haga. Supported by Goethe-Institut Norway and connected to Salamon’s ongoing Ph.D. in artistic research at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO), the work invites audiences into a durational, reflective exploration of intimacy, care, and solidarity across generations.
