Legende (Legend) is a poetic stage work inspired by the art and legacy of filmmaker Sergey Paradjanov, directed and designed by Kirill Serebrennikov. Rather than a conventional biography, it adopts Paradjanov’s highly visual language to reveal a world shaped by human desires and cultural memory. The production unfolds as a kaleidoscope of color, image, and myth, echoing the ethnic and cultural richness of the Caucasus that Paradjanov celebrated. Serebrennikov’s staging becomes an expansive metaverse of cultures, narrated through ten legends. It explores the pursuit of freedom and the resilience of beauty and life in the face of oppression. Co-produced with Ruhrtriennale 2024, Thalia Theater Hamburg, and Kirill & Friends Company, it is presented in Berlin by Komische Oper Berlin within the Kirill & Friends Festival.
