Part of Theater Altenburg Gera’s “Wider das Vergessen” (Against Forgetting) series, this production seeks to portray the historical figure Joseph Süß Oppenheimer without idealization. The staging examines power, financial policy, religious rivalry, and eros, set against Oppenheimer’s love for his daughter Naemi, Jewish tradition, and mysticism. Director Kay Kuntze leads the creative concept with musical direction by GMD Ruben Gazarian. Scenic and costume design are by Martin Fischer and Andrea Eisensee. The aim is a nuanced, responsible encounter with a controversial figure and the forces that shaped his rise and downfall.
