Teatro Real presented Pietro Mascagni's Iris in a concert version during the 2019–2020 season. This production was performed in concert with the Titular Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro Real. Without full staging, the focus was on musical and vocal interpretation, highlighting the interpretive dramatism of the lead performers. The production was led by conductor Evelino Pidò and chorus master Andrés Máspero. The cast featured soprano Ermonela Jaho in the title role, tenor Leonardo Capalbo as Osaka, and baritone Gabriele Viviani as Kyoto. The performances aimed to bring Mascagni’s rarely heard score to Madrid with emphasis on its complex orchestral textures and vocal demands.
