Witch Hillary Goes to the Opera is a children’s opera by Peter Lund, adapted by Freya Goelitz and Julia Terwald. Premiered at the Meininger Staatstheater on 17 October 2024, it targets children around age five and is presented as a new format in the Foyer of the 3rd Tier—an intimate, close-up setting. Young audiences sit on cushions inside Hillary’s brightly colored living room world. At the premiere, stage director Freya Goelitz stepped in at short notice to perform the title role. Virginia Breitenstein accompanies on piano, with selected opera arias by Handel (Rinaldo – Lament), Humperdinck (Hansel and Gretel), and Handel (Semele – Juno). Set design: Helge Ullmann; costumes: Zoe Wagner; dramaturgy: Julia Terwald and Henning Bakker. Running time: about 45 minutes.
