Guest from the Future

This world premiere production of Guest from the Future was presented as part of the second season of Bard SummerScape. It is a chamber opera commissioned and co-produced by the Nine Circles Chamber Theatre. The creative team, including director David Chambers and the writers, previously collaborated on Don Juan in Prague for the inaugural SummerScape season. The production was staged in the Fisher Center's intimate Theater Two (LUMA Theater). The opera is based on the historical encounter between British philosopher Isaiah Berlin and Russian poet Anna Akhmatova in postwar Leningrad. The work explores the profound impact of this single night's meeting on both their lives and Akhmatova's subsequent work. The staging features set design by Darcy Scanlin and lighting by Chris Parry, with live electronics integrated into the performance by Matthew Suttor.
