In this production by Landestheater Detmold, Mary Shelley's classic material is brought to the stage as a play. Goldie Röll's staging illuminates the timeless and highly topical theme of the artificial creation of life. From the ancient Prometheus myth and the alchemical experiments of the Middle Ages to the double-edged possibilities of the present—an era in which genetic engineering, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence are advancing rapidly—the desire to create an artificial human runs through history and is perhaps more explosive today than ever. Production note: This production uses strobe-like lighting effects that may affect light-sensitive audience members. Please take note.
