We have had great success with Farinelli in the past season, and look forward to playing it for even more people in the Danish theater associations in 2022/2023. Emils Reesen's Farinelli is a Danish operetta that cheerfully describes the encouraging and healing effect of song and music. It was written in 1941, and was probably intended as a much-needed diversion from the sad everyday life of the Second World War. It is very loosely based on the life of the historical castrato singer Farinelli and various earlier dramatizations. Many of the catchy melodies have since become popular. Guido Paevatalu, in collaboration with title role holder Niels Jørgen Riis and bandmaster Leif Greibe, has adapted Mogens Dam's original text into a more contemporary version with a personal touch. The plot is an exuberant drama about abductions, coup d'état, adultery, intrigue and even the Spanish Inquisition - all without it ever becoming really dangerous. A performance with impact and lots of good mood!
