Falstaff

The 1968 production of Falstaff at the Bregenzer Festspiele formed part of the festival’s “Italian Stagione,” which regularly brought distinguished Italian opera stagings to the Theater am Kornmarkt, often in cooperation with La Scala, Milan. Directed by Filippo Crivelli with sets and costumes by Lorenzo Ghiglia and choreography by Gerlinde Dill, the staging was conducted by Vittorio Gui. Giuseppe Taddei headlined in the title role, a performance remembered in festival history and later revisited when Taddei returned as Falstaff for the opening season of the new Festival Theatre in 1980. The forces included the Wiener Symphoniker, the Bregenzer Festspielchor, and the Wiener Staatsopernballett.
